Angola, Ind. – The Wheaton women's golf team kicked off its 2015 season on Friday at the Trine University Kick-Off Classic at Zollner Golf Course. The Thunder women's team finished third in the 12-team field.
Trine University, the tournament host, finished first with a 336, Olivet College carded a 348 in second place, Wheaton finished third with 350 strokes, Albion placed fourth with 365, Cleary University and Thomas More each shot a 366 in a tie for fifth place. Rochester College shot a 390 in seventh place Jackson Community College finished eighth with a 390, Manchester University shot a 392 in ninth place, Spring Arbor placed 10thwith a 395, Trine's "B" squad shot a 396 in 11th place and Lourdes University shot a 403 in 12th place.
Wheaton sophomore Rachel Goranson shot an 82 to finish third in the 75-woman field on Friday. She finished just three strokes behind medalist Casey Lamp of Olivet who shot a 79 and the second-place score of 80 went to Trine's Julia DeBelly.
Junior Madeline Bond (LEFT) carded an 86 to tie for eighth place and senior Allie Burgarello shot an 89 in a tie for 17th. Junior Ariana Kim shot a 93 over her 18 holes in a tie for 24th place and sophomore Kylie Monsonfinished in a tie for 30th with a 94.
Wheaton will travel to Bristol Oaks Country Club in Bristol, Wisconsin on September 4-5 to compete in Carthage College's "Tournament on the Border".
